Hmmm... What kind of government do we have? Democracy? Republic?
Something else? Let's see.
There are 5 main forms of government, which can also be narrowed down
from there. These are:
Monarchy- rule by one person, a king or dictator.
Oligarchy- rule by a group of people.
Democracy- rule by majority.
Republic- rule by law.
Anarchy- rule by nothing.
Let's start with Monarchy. Monarchy is being ruled by one person.
However, this is not common at all simply because kings and dictators
always have advisers. This group just puts one person forward as the
mouthpiece or face of the group. So we can just lump that in with
Oligarchy.
Oligarchy, like I said is rule by a group. A group of elite's make the
decisions for the whole population. They can be divinely appointed,
such as kings and his courts. They can also be opportunists dictators
and his bureaucrats. They do not listen to the people nor do they have
to. They do whatever they want. You try to speak out against them,
they can kill you. They are not governed by law but by the whim of the
few elite.
Now, lets go to the opposite end of the spectrum, Anarchy. Anarchy is
where there is no government, no laws, and really no freedom. Everyone
must be armed and ready to fight to protect themselves and their
families at any time. It is essentially survival of the fittest. If I
want what you have, I can kill you and claim it as mine. This one can
be done away with as well because this is merely a transitional form of
government. The only time this form is in existence is when the people
get fed up with the government they have. They riot and eventually
overthrow governments. This is how Lenin got in power in Russia and how
Hitler took power in Germany. They stepped up and were the fittest, so
they became the elite that ruled.
This leaves Oligarchy, Democracy, and Republic. Let's look at a
Democracy. I may just have been stupid ole' me, but I was always told
this is what form of government we have. I couldn't have been more
wrong! Democracy is rule by the majority. Meaning if the majority of
people wanted wanted your house, they could take it. If they wanted
your business, they could take it. If they wanted you children, they
could take them. If a majority of the people could be persuaded to want
something, there is no limit to what they could do.
When Ben Franklin walked out of the Constitutional Convention on the
last day, he was met by the wife of the Mayor of Philadelphia. She
asked, "What form of government have you given us?" He replied, "A
republic mam, if you can keep it." We are a republic. A republic is a
government that is limited by law, leaving the people alone to be free!
Let's talk history for a bit. Rome was a republic, just like we were
when our founders gave us the Constitution. The people were free, they
could work and keep what they worked for. Rome became wealthy and the
envy of all the world. However, in their abundance of wealth, they
forgot that the essence of freedom is the proper limitation of
government. The politicians began to show the people everything they
had and promised they could give them more. Power hungry politicians
started to act outside of the power granted them by their constitution.
Some learned they could elect politicians who would TAKE PROPERTY FROM
SOME AND GIVE IT TO OTHERS. Agricultural subsidies were introduced,
then housing and welfare programs, taxes rose and controls over the
private sectors were imposed. The very people that worked so hard to
make them the wealthiest empire in the world were so poor they took to
the streets in mobs seeking food. They gave up freedom for security and
food. The republic they had went to a democracy and eventually an
oligarchy under the Caesars. There you have it, the rise and fall of
Rome.
I never knew this. Any of it. Maybe I am just stupid (likely) but I
didn't. I have heard of "the fall of Rome" but never knew why. Well, I
have also heard the statement, "Those who don't learn from history, are
doomed to repeat it." Another quote that I understand better is this,
"The definition of CRAZY is doing the same thing over and over and
expecting a different outcome. So my questions is, why are we doing the
same thing? We are taking the exact same path the Romans did! We have
the high taxes, welfare programs, and people take from some to give to
others. America, this is what we have to look forward. Notice what
comes next! People roaming the streets in mobs taking food from others.
Sounds like Anarchy to me. I hope the rest of the country wakes up,
like I did this morning. Think we could never become an oligarchy? 79%
of the public disagreed with the Healthcare bill, but it passed. Why?
Because the elite have decided they know better than the people and are
going to impose their will on us while growing the power of government.
Well, the more power the government gains, the less freedom you and I
have. Please wake up before it is too late. America needs change, but
not what Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al are giving us. We need to go the
opposite direction. Take back OUR government and vote these idiots out
of congress.
As always, let me know what you think.
